10 days to the Sharing Gathering – May 2025

10 days to the Sharing Gathering on Saturday, May 10th

In 10 days, CHOA will have our next Sharing Gathering.  It is on Saturday morning, on May 10th.  We have these events every 6 months, to share what happened, and what is going on right now.  Come to one of these each year to continue to remain informed and connected.

Yes, this event is on Mother’s Day weekend.  We know this is a challenge to attend, and there is a lot going on for all of us.  This weekend worked out the best for the CHOA team, so you will see the full CHOA team at this gathering.  Come Saturday morning for 2 hours, and you will be more informed on what is going on, connect with those working on housing and homelessness in Arcadia, and be encouraged.

In this gathering, we will be focused on homelessness.  We have a special guest in Matthew Brennan, from LACADA (Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse).  Matthew is the Arcadia Program Coordinator for LACADA, which has worked for a few years now in Arcadia.  They connect with many of the unhoused folks in Arcadia, provide services, and even try to connect them back into housing.  Matthew will share what LACADA is doing in Arcadia, and will provide us all understanding and resources for us to help the unhoused and LACADA communicate.  If an unhoused person approaches you and your church, you will be better prepared how to handle the situation, and care for your neighbor.

CHOA will also give you an update on the Inclusionary Ordinance passing earlier this month.  We will explain how that could mean bringing hundreds of affordable housing to Arcadia going forward.  We will also provide a summary on the Elara project, being built in unincorporated Arcadia, which will provide 45 affordable housing units, as well as 45 permanent supportive housing units.

We are very grateful to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration for hosting us.  The address of the church is 1881 South First Avenue, Arcadia 91006.  This is the second time the church has hosted a CHOA Sharing Gathering.  This is an important way to allow housing to happen, by just opening your doors to allow others to learn about housing.  If your church is interested in hosting future CHOA events, reach out to CHOA.

To join us, just register, using the link below.  Let us know you are coming.  There is no charge.  The flier is further below.
