Start of our 4th year of housing advocacy – Sept 2025

Friend of CHOA,

This is the 4th year for CHOA, advocating for housing in Arcadia.  We had 3 good years running.  Our team has changed a bit in the last few months, and we are looking forward to new efforts.  With us all working together, we may see new options for housing in Arcadia.  It’s worth it!!

We have two things for this newsletter:

  • Prayer List: We need to pray for housing in Arcadia.  God listens.  God opens doors.
  • Sharing Gathering on Saturday, Nov. 15th: We are gathering again in-person, to provide updates on what is happening with housing in Arcadia.  The Church of the Good Shepherd is hosting us!! This is their first time to host a CHOA event.  So great to see.

You can make an impact, for housing in Arcadia.  We hope you see that it is possible.  Do join in!

Peace,
–Mike Veerman

Pray for Housing in Arcadia

As part of starting the next 10-12 months of effort, we should first pray.  We realize we are not in control, or in charge.  God is.  We want to do God’s will.

We pray…both being grateful and thankful for the previous year, and ask for open doors for new efforts.  (And we pray to listen to God as well; maybe not easy for us in the U.S…especially advocates that tend to talk.  See one of the books – the Way of the Heart – on our Recommendations Readings list, that focuses on prayer, solitude and silence.)

Please join us in prayer for the rest of this month.

We give thanks to God for:

  • City Council passing the Inclusionary Housing Ordiance back in April.  This allows more housing options in Arcadia, and hundreds of affordable housing units over the next several decades.  Thank you God!
  • Thankful for the many people that worked for housing in Arcadia, either speaking at City Council, organizing and preparing meetings, as well as the many people at churches in Arcadia getting connected.

Here are our prayer requests.

  • Initiate a Safe Parking Program in Arcadia in the coming years.
  • For the vacant Lucile parcel to eventually have affordable housing…soon.
  • People who work in Arcadia can afford to live here in Arcadia as well.
  • More churches and people of faith to join in the housing efforts here in Arcadia.

Sharing Gathering on November 15th

CHOA is thrilled and so grateful that the Church of the Good Shepherd (United Methodist Church) will host our next Sharing Gathering.  This will be their first time hosting us.

We will meet a bit later in the Fall, on Saturday, November 15th, from 9:15am to 11:30am.  Place this on your calendar.

Also, please post these fliers on your church welcome tables, and bulletin boards, for others to see.  To get the flier, just click the link below.

RSVP in the link below.  If you have not been at a CHOA event for a while, come join us, connect with others that care about and work for housing in Arcadia.  We do not take videos of these Sharing Gatherings anymore, so come in-person to hear what is going on.
