Hope you had a good summer. CHOA needed July off, to rest and be restored. We are ready to engage in housing in Arcadia again!
Gratefully, this is our 5th year advocating for housing in Arcadia. We know this year, like others, will have challenges. We also can already see God providing as well. We come to start the new year in prayer, and with that, reflect on the Lord’s Prayer. What does it mean to you?
In Matthew 6: 9-10, Jesus teaches us all how to pray. It starts like this…
“Pray, then, in this way
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be revered as holy.
May your kingdom come.
May your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven….”
What is going on in our minds when we pray these words, as we often do in our individual and corporate prayers? What does God’s kingdom look like? We really want that to come? God loves many, many different people. Are we open to them? We know God’s will is done in heaven. What does it look like for God’s will be done on earth? It is clear to understand we want wars and sickness and disease to end. Maybe hunger. Maybe anxiety for the future. Are we thinking about housing when we pray this? If people can be in a home, where they do not have to worry about making ends meet, and being evicted, is that peace? Does God’s will include families thriving? Do we want that kind of God’s will really on this earth? When we say “earth”, are we thinking and praying about Arcadia?
These questions can stretch us…in our prayers…maybe even in our actions. Pray with us…and the CHOA team encourages you to continue (or start) walking with us to increase affordable housing in Arcadia…and reduce homelessness in our city.
Here’s what is in this newsletter:
- Arcadia Housing Prayer list: We start each of our years with prayer. We know we cannot accomplish anything without God’s guidance and support. Review our prayer list, and pray with us, for housing in Arcadia.
- On Saturday, October 24th, CHOA will have our 9th in-person Sharing Gathering: Set your calendar, and join us. Journey Community Church will host us for their second time. Join us to hear the updates on housing in Arcadia, and how you can make an impact.
- North Village 130 condo unit project at 225 N. 2nd Avenue approved: City Council voted to accept this project in July. This includes 20 affordable housing units. More details are below.

Prayer list for Housing in Arcadia
We recognize God loves us all. And God has a special care for those that are vulnerable, and on the margins. Breakthroughs are first done in prayer, and as we move, at times we see God’s hand to open doors, provide, and make a way.
Join us to pray for the following items for housing in Arcadia:
- For God’s mercy and compassion for people who are unhoused, and those struggling with rent, and able to access the programs and services to help them.
- For more Arcadia churches to be engaged and connected to CHOA.
- For the success and transition for HERO (our new case management team here in Arcadia).
- For the upcoming Arcadia elections & more constructive collaboration at City Council, to make wise decisions, and to look at the good for the community.
- For God to provide a Program managing organization for Safe Parking in Arcadia.
- For more volunteers at the annual Homeless Count in January.
Next Sharing Gathering on Saturday, October 24th
CHOA finds talking directly with people in the faith community and the city does make an impact. We share our perspective, and find folks begin to see it is possible to have affordable housing in Arcadia. It is possible to reduce homelessness in Arcadia. We want everyone to be housed, and live as God intends us to live. This is why we continue our in-person gatherings every six months.
Housing can be one of those key topics we bring up, often. Arcadia is a medium-sized city, around 60,000. We have 5 City Councilmembers that are very approachable. We can talk with city staff. We know each other in the faith community. We are all connected, and we can express what we find important.
Set your calendars for Saturday morning on October 24th. We will connect, share, and expand how we see Arcadia, and housing. More details will come in the next few months.

North Village 130 condo project at 225 N. 2nd Ave. approved
In July, City Council approved the North Village project. This is a 130 condo unit, 6 story mixed used project, that includes 20 affordable housing units. This also includes 187 parking spaces.
This is a mixed-used development, meaning there will be commercial business on the bottom floor, and 5 stories of housing units above. The two renderings are shown immediately above, as well as the very top of this newsletter. This is allowed by the Rezoning, done 2 years ago to allow residential units to be included in previous only commercial areas in the city.
This project includes studio, one-bedroom, two-bedrooms, and three-bedroom units. This is expected to be completed by 2028. As a contract, in the 2 below pictures, the developer provides the current site picture, and the floor plan of the 3rd floor.

With our new Inclusionary Housing Ordinance (and the State Density Bonus), 20 of the 130 units are affordable housing units. These are for low-income levels.

If you are sensing that there are many housing projects coming to Arcadia (with affordable housing), you would be right. And that’s really good news, for us know, and decades to come.
Below is the summary of all the projects, totaling the new housing units, as well as the affordable housing unit total. Our city is making progress to provide more housing, and over a hundred affordable housing units. And more is to come!
